Dad’s Jukebox – ***WORK IN PROGRESS***
Started January 2020, finished May 2020
This project was something my dad asked me to create for his shed for his 60th birthday. He wanted a jukebox to place in the corner. He covered the cost of materials ($1500+) and my time (200+ hours) was his birthday present.
I had never made anything like this before, so I was surprised when he asked if I could whip something up. I consulted my mate Tristan, an awesome builder, for ideas. He was a massive help in getting started.
During our design phase, I decided we should make it part jukebox, part arcade machine. We spent three days building and painting it in Tristan’s garage. He then helped me transport it back to my place, where I completed the remaining work (with him visiting most Thursday nights to ensure progress and for a few beers).
Over the next month or two, I ordered all the parts I thought I’d need for the internals, including arcade buttons and joysticks. I also used a spare 32-inch TV as the monitor. When deciding on speakers, I considered many options but ultimately chose the same speakers I had set up on my PC, Logitech Z623.
The system runs on a Raspberry Pi 3. For the jukebox side, I used Fruitbox, and for the arcade games, I used RetroPie.
